June activities to support 180,000 North Carolina residents living with Alzheimer’s disease
This June, during Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, the Alzheimer’s Association chapters in North Carolina are hosting activities statewide to elevate the conversation on the impact of Alzheimer’s disease. Established by the Alzheimer’s Association in 2014, Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month is dedicated to encouraging a global conversation about the brain and Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia.
During Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month, join the Alzheimer’s Association in North Carolina for these activities to support the 180,000 North Carolinians living with Alzheimer’s and their 369,000 caregivers.

Go Purple for Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month
June 28 | 9:00-11:00 AM (Wilmington, NC)
To recognize Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, the New Hanover County Senior Resource Center and the Association are hosting a Go Purple! event. Join us for purple pancakes and mocktails and a selfie station while we make cards for local caregivers attending support groups and learn more about dementia and brain health. Learn More.
Statewide Rally for Access
June 15 | 10:00-11:00 AM (Charlotte, NC)
Join other volunteers and advocates from across North Carolina for our statewide Rally for Access in Charlotte on June 15. Together, we’ll raise our voices to demand Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services stop blocking access to FDA-approved Alzheimer’s treatments. People living with Alzheimer’s need your help and are counting on us to get this decision reversed. Learn More.

Join us to learn about research in the areas of diet and nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity and social engagement, and use hands-on tools to help you incorporate these recommendations into a plan for healthy aging. Purple Macarons at Amélie’s French Bakery and Café

As we enter Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, the renowned pastry chefs for the well-known Amélie’s French Bakery and Café have created a signature dessert to support the fight to end Alzheimer’s. Visit any of Amelie’s five greater Charlotte area locations during the month of June to purchase a specialty purple macaron for Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness month. Outshine the Darkness of Alzheimer’s this June for The Longest Day
During June, the Alzheimer’s Association is also inviting North Carolina residents to participate in The Longest Day®. Held annually on the summer solstice, The Longest Day invites participants to fight the darkness of Alzheimer’s through a fundraising activity of their choice. Throughout the month and culminating on June 21, Longest Day participants will use their creativity and passion to raise funds and awareness for the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association.
Participants will bake, bike, hike, golf, knit, play bridge and take part in other favorite activities. Here’s just a few examples of the more than 170 activities taking place across North Carolina for The Longest Day. We welcome you to attend one of these event or create your own activity for The Longest Day.
Family Dance Party CLT
June 10 | 1-5 PM | Roxbury Nightclub | Charlotte, NC
Hosted by Radio One’s Ramona Holloway whose mother Wheezy passed away from dementia in 2021, this event provides adults and children with a fun opportunity to support families affected by dementia and to give children who want to help others a chance to learn more about using their time and talents to support charity. Presented by Jamison Realty, the event will feature a DJ, a dance contest with a $200 top prize, games, and snacks! The Family Dance Party will be the most fun parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and the kids can have on a Saturday afternoon. Learn more.
The Power for Purple Palooza
June 17-24 | Moore County
Activities taking place across Moore County for all ages! Organized by The Racquet Club at Seven Lakes, the week includes an immersive murder mystery dinner, golf outing and give back night at a local winery. The main event on June 24, will include a 5K fun walk/run, tennis and pickleball play, silent auction, raffles, a corn-hole tournament, games for children, food trucks, beverages from local breweries and wineries, and DJ. The Longest Ride
June 24 | 8 AM – 1 PM | Anderson Point Park | Raleigh, N.C.
Cyclists of all ability levels are invited to join this family fun ride to raise funds for The Longest Day. Participants ride to honor those who face Alzheimer’s with strength, heart, and endurance every day of their lives. Our ride is only a small sacrifice that does so much to support programs and services for those living with Alzheimer’s disease. Join an existing ride team or start your own. Learn more.
Forget It Concert
June 24 | Bands begin at 4PM | Gypsy Road Brewing Company | Kernersville, N.C.
Hear music from some great local bands, including Sons of Bootleg, Wristband, and the Logan Thomas Band starting at 4 pm! This is an indoor and covered outdoor venue with limited seating provided. Please bring your yard chairs for overflow seating. Share in many fun activities, such as raffles, silent auctions, and a photo booth! Gypsy Road will be selling their award-winning beer, and dinner purchases will be available from a local food truck. A suggested donation of $15 for attending will be collected at entry. All proceeds will go directly to the Alzheimer’s Association to raise awareness and help those affected by the disease through advanced care, support, and research, across the world. Learn more.
