The Pettit family of Mooresville, North Carolina has been raising awareness about Alzheimer’s since Betty Pettit, who is living with the disease, was propelled to internet fame thru a TikTok video her son Josh posted of her meeting herself, for the first time, in a full-length mirror. Since then the internet has fallen in love with Betty through social media. Their follower count is hundreds of thousands and amassing millions of likes.
People relate to her as it reminds them of their own loved ones who they are caring for or those they have lost to dementia. From local media to international media outlets have done stories on the Pettits and the light they are shining on the disease. That includes caregiving as well. In a December 2022 CNN story done on the family, they talked about caring for the caregiver.
The Pettit’s awareness efforts continue, and now they are raising funds for the Alzheimer’s Association’s The Longest Day, a campaign where thousands of participants from across the world come together to fight the darkness of Alzheimer’s through an activity of their choice. So far, the family’s team, I’m Betty, has raised over $23,000, already surpassing and raising their goal several times.
For the summer solstice — The Longest Day, the family has launched a special challenge.
On June 21, 2023, anyone who makes a donation of $21+ to their team fundraiser, will be entered in to win a GIANT #ENDALZ Swag Bag with lots of Alzheimer’s awareness gear! And the winner will be drawn during one of their videos in the coming weeks.
Make your gift here on June 21, 2023 between 12:00 AM – 11:59 PM EST.
