Warm Holiday Wishes from North Carolina Staff

What an extraordinary year!

On behalf of the Alzheimer’s Association in North Carolina — our dedicated volunteers, staff, and the Alzheimer’s community in our amazing state, we want to extend our sincerest holiday greetings to you. Thank each and every one of you for all that you have done to support us as we continue our work toward our mission: to lead the way to end Alzheimer’s and all other dementia — by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support.

You showed up in tremendous ways for those served by our mission. Because of you, we were able to invest the most the Alzheimer’s Association has devoted to dementia research in a single year. And because of your dedication, we were able to successfully and passionately reach even more people through our care and support services, volunteer efforts and fundraising initiatives.

Below are some highlights that exemplify the numerous ways you helped us execute and advance our mission in 2023:

  • Research – This year the Alzheimer’s Association funded 271 scientific investigations. Our cumulative impact on research now includes more than $360 million invested in over 1,000 active research projects in 53 countries. This includes research currently being conducted at these N.C. research institutions: Duke University, The University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Wake Forest University Health Sciences.
  • Information & Referral – More than 1,600 North Carolinians utilized the 24/7 Helpline service.
  • Education, Training & Support Groups – Nearly 13,000 individuals across the state participated in virtual, on-demand, and in-person education programs and support groups.
  • Advocacy – Helped secure a $226 million increase for Alzheimer’s disease research, bringing federal funding at the National Institutes of Health to $3.7 billion.
  • Volunteers – More than 300 volunteer leaders helped fuel our mission, with hundreds more helping out as event day volunteers.
  • Funding the Mission – Over 11,000 participated across North Carolina in Walk to End Alzheimer’s, The Longest Day and our Memory Gala, collectively raising $3.8 million for the fight against Alzheimer’s — a record-breaking year for all three campaigns.

With gratitude and warmest wishes this holiday season,

P.S. We know that the holidays are often filled with opportunities for togetherness, sharing, laughter and memories. But they can also bring stress, disappointment and sadness. A person living with Alzheimer’s disease or another form of dementia may feel a special sense of loss during the holidays because of the changes he or she has experienced. At the same time, caregivers may feel overwhelmed maintaining traditions while providing care. With that in mind, here are some tips and information on navigating the holidays and Alzheimer’s. And as always, our dementia care experts are available to you 24/7 at 800.272.3900.

Holiday wishes from our families to yours.
