The Alzheimer’s Association announced that the Western Carolina Chapter has been ranked No. 8 in the nation out of the Alzheimer’s Association’s 2023 Top Fundraising Chapters for The Longest Day.

The Western Carolina Chapter earned a spot among this ranking for the first time in 2022, moving up one spot from last year in this year’s ranking. Surpassing it’s $330,000 goal, chapter participants in the 2023 The Longest Day season raised an incredible $356,852 to outshine the darkness of Alzheimer’s by funding Alzheimer’s care, support and research programs. Rankings are earned by overall campaign revenue for all Association chapters nationwide.
“Congratulations to all involved in The Longest Day for their hard work and support in helping our chapter rank nationally” said Katherine L. Lambert, CEO of the Alzheimer’s Association – Western Carolina Chapter. “We appreciate our The Longest Day participants, volunteers, staff and the entire North Carolina community for going above and beyond to make this campaign a huge success and to raise critical funds for Alzheimer’s research and local support services.”
Rankings are earned by overall campaign revenue, and include 75 chapters nationwide. In 2023, more than 12,000 people participated in The Longest Day fundraising activities, raising nearly $12 million.
“These vital funds enable the Association to deliver 24/7 care and support, advocate fearlessly for people facing the disease and fuel groundbreaking research across the globe,” said Chelsea Blanding, volunteer co-chair of The Longest Day Committee in North Carolina. “And this is only the beginning. With the current advances in treatment, our work is more important than ever. We won’t rest until everyone living with the disease — at any stage — can get the treatment, care and support they need and deserve.”
On behalf of all those we serve, we can’t thank you enough, North Carolina, for your support of The Longest Day in 2023. Together, supporters from both chapters in North Carolina raised over $457,000 for Alzheimer’s research care and support. The most ever collectively raised across the state.
