New Alzheimer’s/Dementia Support Groups Started across Western North Carolina

The Alzheimer’s Association – Western Carolina Chapter has formed several new local caregiver support groups for family, friends and caregivers who care for someone living with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia.

Alzheimer’s Association support groups, conducted by trained facilitators, are a safe place for caregivers. They allow participants to develop a support system and exchange practical information on challenges and possible solutions. The groups also allow opportunity to talk through issues and discuss ways of coping and share feelings of needs and concerns. Group members also learn about community resources that can help them in their caregiving role.

“The demands of being an Alzheimer’s/dementia caregiver are all-encompassing and increase over time as the disease progresses, ” said Katherine L. Lambert, CEO of the Alzheimer’s Association – Western Carolina Chapter. “No one should face dementia alone. We are grateful to be a part of this important aspect of caregiver support being offered in these new communities.”
