On April 13 – 19, North Carolina will hold an Advocacy Engagement Week to raise awareness among our federal and state legislators, ask for their support for NC families facing Alzheimer’s or other dementia, and build momentum by harnessing the power of many advocates’ voices. With just a few minutes each day, you can make a significant impact by supporting key policies in our state.
Sign up today by texting NCADVOCATE to 1.888.438.0144 to receive details about the quick actions you can take.
Our priorities this year are bigger and bolder than ever:
- Increase research funding through the NIH and continue building upon our public health infrastructure through additional funding for the BOLD Act
- Urge state legislators to pass legislation that will ensure access to biomarker testing, which would support early and accurate diagnosis of dementia
- Increase respite care funding for North Carolina caregivers to $2 million a year through expansion of Project C.A.R.E.
- And that is just the beginning! Learn more about our other priorities during Advocacy Engagement Week
Like to plan ahead? Here’s a sneak peek at our planned advocacy activities so you can mark your calendar:
Sunday, April 13
Kick off the week by sharing why you advocate to #ENDALZ by sharing a post on social media. Add a photo of a beloved spouse, parent, grandparent, or family member, and tell us why you advocate. Please use #ENDALZ and be sure to tag the Alzheimer’s Association Western Carolina Chapter or Eastern North Carolina Chapter.
Monday, April 14
Join advocates from across the country in urging your federal legislators to support the newly-introduced Credit for Caring Act by writing a Letter to the Editor. Don’t have time to write a letter? Send your members of Congress a quick message asking them to support this legislation. We give you the tools to make it easy!
Tuesday, April 15
Build momentum for House Bill 576 by joining us in Raleigh for meetings with legislators. If you are not able to participate in Raleigh, you can send your representatives a message urging them to ensure access to biomarker testing by support H576.
Wednesday, April 16
Help us ensure the voices of people living with dementia and their caregivers are heard. Now is the moment to do more, not less, in the fight against Alzheimer’s. Urge your members of Congress to reaffirm their commitment to the Alzheimer’s community.
Thursday, April 17
Take action to support House Bill 120, which would increase funds for Project C.A.R.E., North Carolina’s only dementia-specific respite program. Tell your legislators how vital increased respite care funds are to dementia caregivers in our state.
Friday, April 18
Encourage your friends, family, and colleagues to join you in the fight against Alzheimer’s by becoming an advocate. We will provide a link that makes it quick and easy to send a message to friends & family by email, text, or on social media.
Saturday, April 19
Closeout Advocacy Engagement Week by sending an email educating your member of Congress about the importance of research funding to the NIH.
Please feel free to share this far and wide… the more people we have going purple this week, the bigger impact we can make!
