We are endlessly grateful to our volunteers for giving their time to better the lives of those impacted by Alzheimer’s and other dementias. Our volunteers are truly the heart of the Alzheimer’s Association here in North Carolina.
In honor of National Volunteer Week 2025, we’ll be spotlighting a different volunteer from our Eastern North Carolina Chapter each day. Today we are featuring …
Michelle Lee
Wake County
What brought you to volunteer with the Alzheimer’s Association?
It is a personal connection of love, passion and purpose to shine a light on awareness and to help others. My grandma Margaret passed away from the disease and my Mom, Bertha, was officially diagnosed with younger-onset Alzheimer’s in the same month, September 2020.
What volunteer role(s) do you have with the Association?
As a board member [for the Alzheimer’s Association – Eastern NC Chapter], I am using this opportunity to learn, drive awareness, connect executives and corporations to the cause and just make an overall positive impact to help others.
Michelle is also actively involved with the Alzheimer’s Association through her employer, Cisco. She helps organize educational programs for their workforce, and participates as part of Cisco National Team for Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
What do you enjoy most about your volunteer role?
Creating new connections and helping others gives me a sense of purpose and gratitude. I want to shine a light on those who need help and support – I want them to know they are not alone.
What piece of your role do you feel makes the biggest impact?
Educating, supporting and helping others – to know they are not alone in the fight.
If someone were considering volunteering with the Association, what would you say to them?
I would share my personal story, the amazing work the Alzheimer’s Association does to help (programs & testing) and how they specifically can make a difference. Be a ray of hope and a beacon of light to others. Your participation will make an impact for those who are dealing with the disease and also for the loved ones taking care of them. Be the light and provide peace!
THANK YOU, MICHELLE!
