Mark April 12 – 18 on your calendar now — you won’t want to miss this opportunity to make a significant impact with just a few minutes each day!
No matter where you live in North Carolina, Advocacy Engagement Week is your chance to raise awareness among federal and state legislators, ask for their support for NC families facing Alzheimer’s or other dementia, and build momentum by harnessing the power of many advocates’ voices.
Text NCADVOCATE to 1.888.438.0144 to sign up. We make it easy to advocate!
Our priorities this year are bigger and bolder than ever:
- Ensuring access to biomarker testing in North Carolina, which would support early and accurate diagnosis of dementia
- Increasing respite care funding for North Carolina caregivers to $2 million a year through expansion of Project C.A.R.E.
- Growing engagement with ALZ research in NC by increasing funding for the NC Registry for Brain Health
- Accelerating access to Alzheimer’s screening tests through the ASAP Act
And that is just the beginning! You’ll learn more about key priorities during Advocacy Engagement Week. But if you like to plan ahead, here’s a sneak peek at our planned advocacy activities:
Sunday, April 12
Kick off the week by sharing why you advocate to #ENDALZ by sharing a post on social media. Add a photo of a beloved spouse, parent, grandparent, or family member, and tell us why you advocate. Please use #ENDALZ and be sure to tag (@) your local chapter — see the footer of this page to find and tag the Eastern NC or Western NC Chapter on your preferred social platform.
Monday, April 13
Join advocates from across the country in urging your federal legislators to support the ASAP Act by writing a Letter to the Editor. Don’t have time to write a letter? Send your members of Congress a quick message asking them to support this legislation.
Tuesday, April 14
Build momentum for House Bill 567 by sending a message to your legislators asking them to ensure access to biomarker testing in NC.
Join us for the April State Champion, part of our bi-monthly series that updates advocates on state policy priorities and ways to use their voice through our related advocacy campaigns. Click here to RSVP for the program.
Wednesday, April 15
Help Build Support for the AADAPT Act, which would fund virtual dementia education and training. This will empower primary care providers to better diagnose Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
Thursday, April 16
Join our New ALZ Advocate Info Session, which will be hosted online at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. This program is designed to equip new volunteer advocates with the information they need to support their ALZ advocacy journey. Click here to RSVP.
Friday, April 17
Let your state legislators know that incredible ALZ research is happening in our state & we want to ensure the NC Registry for Brain Health has more resources to engage North Carolinians in ALZ research. Stay tuned for an action link for this priority.
Saturday, April 18
Closeout Advocacy Engagement Week by encouraging your friends, family, and colleagues to join you in the fight against Alzheimer’s by becoming an advocate. We will provide a link that makes it quick and easy to send a message to friends & family by email, text, or on social media.
Please feel free to share this far and wide… the more people we have going purple this week, the bigger impact we can make!
