Local N.C. Teams Pound Out Alzheimer’s This June

POUND® Fitness is a global team partner with The Alzheimer’s Association and The Longest Day — the day of the year with the most light. People from across the world are fighting the darkness of Alzheimer’s through a variety of activities. Two such POUND® events are taking place in North Carolina this year and you can join them from anywhere in the world by donating OR joining them in person to rock out your workout where all proceeds will be donated!

According to organizers, “POUND® is for everybody and for every body. Unleash your inner rockstar and join an incredible community of people for a cardio jam session inspired by drumming. You will become the music and workout as if you’re on the front row of your favorite concert! Official POUND® RIPSTIX will be provided and sanitized before and after class. All levels are welcome. Bring water, towel and mat (optional).”

“When Pound joined together with The Longest Day, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to give back and help a fantastic cause. As someone who used to help walk dogs for people with Alzheimer’s disease at the local assisted living facility, I understand the struggles and how this disease doesn’t just affect the person, but the whole family. Raising money to help provide support, education, and research is the least we can do if it leads to a world where, one day, Alzheimer’s doesn’t exist! On June 20, wear clothes that will glow under blacklight: we’ll provide blacklight glow paint and Ripstix! Painting starts at 6:30pm, class and rocking out at 7PM!”

“We are connected to Alzheimer’s Disease, both personally and professionally, and each have lost family members to the devastating effects of Alzheimer’s and dementia. Participating in The Longest Day is a way for us to honor those individuals living with Alzheimer’s and caregivers currently dealing with AD and to celebrate the memories of others while raising awareness for the disease state.  As an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach and Pharmaceutical Rep, I [Casi] have worked with Healthcare Providers and caregivers to provide an alternative therapeutic solution that helped the entire family, not just the individual with the diagnosis. Through my [Julia] work as a licensed speech language pathologist, I emphasize the importance of equipping families with tools to achieve meaningful connection and communication throughout the lifespan.  The workout we are providing for our The Longest Day Fundraiser on June 26th is a cardio jam session inspired by drumming. It’s a full body workout, but most importantly, the hand-eye coordination of using both hands to create the rhythm of the Ripstix is extremely powerful to the mind as well as the body.”
– Casi Camacho and Julia Frankin (POUND Pros/organizers)
