A common misconception about the Alzheimer’s Association The Longest Day is that the fundraisers must take place only on the summer solstice or in the same month of June. The truth is, while many of the fundraisers take place leading up to or culminating on June 21, fundraiser for The Longest Day can take place any day of the year. And here’s one great example of a The Longest Day fundraising event that is taking place next month.
One Triad area group that is ready to shine a light on the darkness of Alzheimer’s is iAlign Dance Company, a dance collective that composed of community dancers dedicated to serving the people and organizations within their community. The company is made up of cross-generational dancers that range in age from toddlers to active seniors.
Each year iAlign delivers a performance that highlights a theme submitted and voted on by the community. The iAlign performance embodies the human experience by using real stories from the community while promoting an inclusive learning environment through dance and artistic expression combined with education and community outreach. They seek to educate people on the adversities experienced by our community by creating local events and dance performances to start a conversation and to share experiences with one another… Together they inspire a greater world that embraces diversity and cultivates a deeper understanding of the human experience.
Partnering with The Longest Day, this years’ theme is Alzheimer’s disease. Over 100 stories were collected from real community members that are directly and indirectly impacted by the disease. The stories have been transformed into dance and taught to community dancers.
On March 5, 2022, iAlign Dance Company will present the show ‘Remember Me’. The community is invited to attend either virtually or in person in Greensboro, N.C. A portion of their ticket sales will go towards their The Longest Day fundraising efforts. All are invited to enjoy this storytelling-in-motion from wherever is most comfortable to you!
